Going Green

The Phase 3 Expansion of the Centre will include several important changes to become more environmentally friendly:
  • A new ice plant to service all three arenas and reduce energy consumption by 20% over traditional plants

  • Innovative use of waste heat from the ice plant for in-floor heating and water heating to reduce natural gas consumption and emissions with a reduction in cost equivalent to approximately 20 Canadian homes.

  • A new tank-less water heating system that will reduce water heating expenses by at least 60%

  • Use of recycled materials in construction

  • A new battery-powered and emission-free Ice Bear™ ice resurfacer that will save 190GJ or 4850m3 of natural gas from being burned, which is roughly equivalent to two Olympic-sized swimming pools

  • Low energy and high efficiency toilets and shower heads

  • Leading-edge lighting technology will cut energy costs in half

  • Drought resistant landscaping design to prevent erosion
